About Us

The Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain Recreation Area in Big Bear Lake, home of the world-famous Alpine Slide, offers family fun activities year round. In the summer there is a cool water slide and in the winter there is plenty of fun snow play. The Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain is home to Southern California’s only authentic bobsled experience. Begin with a scenic chairlift ride to the top. From there, riders navigate their own individually controlled sleds, each with Teflon runners and ball bearing wheels, down their choice of two quarter-mile long cement tracks filled with high-banked turns and long straightaways.

There are a variety of attractions at the recreation area, which include year round operations of the go-karts and an 18 hole miniature golf course.  The nine Cam Am racers feature 5.5 horsepower Honda motors and the miniature golf course offers 18 exciting holes complete with breaking greens and water hazards.  Take a picture with our bear “Cooper” that relaxes on the course. Parents can join in the fun or enjoy soaking up the sun on the spacious lawn and two sun decks. The double water slide operates during the summer months, taking riders down two twisting and turning flumes filled with refreshing, cool water, before dumping them with a splash into the heated pool at the bottom.

Our base lodge with family priced snack bar has video games and a cotton candy machine that makes your cotton candy while you watch!

In 2018, the Soaring Eagle Ride was also added offering panoramic forest and lake views.  The first and only one in CA, this dual seated ride takes you backwards nearly two football fields before zipping down high above tree tops at 26 mph.

The new Mineshaft Coaster opened in 2020 and is the first and only Mountain Coaster in California!  Ride alone or with a passenger, as you control your speed through hairpin turns, dips, tunnels, bridges, and 360-degree corkscrews along the mountainside on a mile long track.  An automated camera captures photos and video throughout the coaster experience, available for purchase after your ride!

Snow Play

Big Bear’s snow tubing hill, at the famous Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain.

We increased our snow making capacity 25% in the off-season, primarily so we could open more runs earlier in the season. Snow making base depths were in excess of 30 feet last year. Getting to the top of the hill is easy, since we have the Magic Carpet uphill lift that is covered in plexiglass for our guest’s comfort.

We start making snow as soon as it is cold enough, typically in October or November!

Five Lenko Fan snow guns blanket the area’s five runs with enough snow to build a pack 20 feet deep or more.

We light up the hill and the Magic Carpet for our evening sessions

water slide

Take a ride in the crystal blue waters of the Alpine water slide

Turning and banking on the way to the 3 1/2′ deep pool of inviting water. When you are done, relax with family and friends on the poolside redwood deck

This is a must stop that place in big Bear! I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid. We just went yesterday with my kids and my sister and her family. We all rode the roller coaster which was so much fun! You got to do that. We also we’re going to ride the Alpine slide but didn’t this time. I highly suggest stopping here

All day snow play and coasters, better prices than others near by and the staff are all super friendly. Covid compliant too! I noticed the staff cleaning all the sleds as the were returned and sanitizing the waiver tablets used by customers. Great place to go for the day.
